A rich, tangy barbecue sauce with a perfect balance of sweetness, smokiness, and heat. Perfect for grilling, dipping, or glazing meats.
Ingredients
- 1 cup ketchup
- 0.5 cup apple cider vinegar
- 0.33 cup brown sugar, packed
- 2 tablespoon honey
- 2 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon molasses
- 2 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 0.5 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 0.25 teaspoon black pepper
- 0.5 teaspoon kosher salt
- 0.25 teaspoon mustard powder
Steps
- Gather all ingredients and measure them out into separate small bowls.
- In a medium saucepan, combine the ketchup, apple cider vinegar, and brown sugar over medium heat.
- Whisk the mixture until the brown sugar is completely dissolved, about 1 minute.
- Add the honey, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, and molasses to the saucepan and stir well to combine.
- In a small bowl, combine the smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, black pepper, kosher salt, and mustard powder.
- Add the spice mixture to the saucepan and whisk thoroughly until all spices are fully incorporated and there are no lumps.
- Bring the sauce to a gentle simmer and reduce heat to medium-low.
- Simmer the sauce for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it thickens and the flavors meld together.
- Remove from heat and taste the sauce, adjusting seasoning as needed with salt, pepper, or additional vinegar for tanginess.
- Pour the sauce into clean glass jars or bottles and let cool completely before covering.
- Store in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks, or use immediately on grilled meats.
