This iconic New Orleans dish features plump shrimp swimming in a rich, buttery sauce infused with Worcestershire, hot sauce, and spices. Traditionally served with crusty bread to soak up every drop of the addictive sauce.
Ingredients
- 2 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 1 pound unsalted butter
- 0.5 cup Worcestershire sauce
- 3 tablespoon hot sauce
- 2 tablespoon garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 0.5 teaspoon dried thyme
- 0.5 teaspoon dried oregano
- 2 bay leaves
- 0.25 teaspoon red pepper flakes
- 1 lemon, juiced
- 1 French bread
Steps
- Peel and devein the shrimp, pat dry with paper towels, and set aside.
- In a small bowl, combine paprika, cayenne pepper, black pepper, salt, thyme, oregano, and red pepper flakes.
- Melt 4 tablespoons of butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
- Add minced garlic to the melted butter and sauté for 1 minute until fragrant.
- Add the shrimp to the skillet in a single layer and cook for 2 minutes.
- Flip the shrimp and cook for another 2 minutes on the other side.
- Sprinkle the spice mixture evenly over the shrimp and stir to coat.
- Pour in the Worcestershire sauce and hot sauce, stirring well to combine.
- Add the bay leaves to the sauce.
- Reduce heat to medium and cut the remaining butter into cubes, then whisk it into the sauce a few pieces at a time until fully incorporated and creamy.
- Squeeze fresh lemon juice into the sauce and stir gently.
- Cook for 2 more minutes until shrimp are completely opaque and cooked through.
- Remove bay leaves, taste and adjust seasonings if needed.
- Transfer shrimp and sauce to a serving dish and serve immediately with crusty French bread for dipping.
