Ingredients
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- 2 pound ground beef
- 2 eggs
- 0.5 cup whole milk
- 0.5 cup onion, finely minced
- 0.25 cup ketchup
- 2 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
- 0.5 teaspoon garlic powder
- 2 tablespoon ketchup
- 3 tablespoon butter
- 3 tablespoon all-purpose flour
- 2 cup beef broth
- 0.5 teaspoon salt
- 0.25 teaspoon black pepper
Steps
- Preheat oven to 350°F.
- In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, eggs, milk, minced onion, 1/4 cup ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, 1 teaspoon salt, 1/2 teaspoon black pepper, and garlic powder.
- Mix the ingredients gently with your hands until just combined; do not overmix, as this will make the meatloaf tough.
- Shape the meat mixture into a loaf and place it in a 9x5 inch loaf pan, pressing gently to fit.
- Spread 2 tablespoons of ketchup evenly over the top of the meatloaf.
- Place the loaf pan in the preheated oven and bake for 50 to 60 minutes, until the internal temperature reaches 160°F on a meat thermometer.
- Remove the meatloaf from the oven and carefully transfer it to a cutting board, reserving the pan with drippings for the gravy.
- Place the loaf pan with drippings on the stovetop over medium heat.
- Melt 3 tablespoons of butter in the pan, stirring and scraping the bottom to incorporate all browned bits.
- Sprinkle 3 tablespoons of flour over the melted butter and stir constantly for 1 to 2 minutes to create a roux, cooking out the raw flour taste.
- Slowly pour in 2 cups of beef broth while whisking constantly to prevent lumps.
- Continue cooking and whisking for 3 to 5 minutes until the gravy thickens to your desired consistency.
- Season the gravy with 1/2 teaspoon salt and 1/4 teaspoon black pepper, taste and adjust as needed.
- Slice the meatloaf and serve with the hot pan gravy poured over top.
