Lasagna Bolognese

A classic Italian lasagna with rich tomato sauce, layers of tender pasta, and melted cheese. A comforting family favorite.

Ingredients

  • 2 pound mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 0.5 cup Parmesan cheese, grated
  • 2 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 pound lasagna noodles
  • 28 ounce crushed tomatoes
  • 4 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon oregano
  • 0.5 cup fresh basil, chopped

Steps

  1. Cook the lasagna noodles in boiling water according to package directions until al dente.
  2. Remove the noodles from the boiling water and drain well.
  3. Heat olive oil in a large saucepan over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 1 minute.
  4. Add crushed tomatoes, oregano, and salt and pepper to taste. Simmer for 15-20 minutes to develop flavor. Stir in fresh basil at the end.
  5. Preheat oven to 375°F.
  6. Spread a thin layer of sauce on the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  7. Layer noodles, then sauce, then a mixture of mozzarella and Parmesan cheese. Repeat layers until all ingredients are used, ending with cheese on top.
  8. Bake lasagna at 375°F for 25-30 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbling.
  9. Let rest for 5 minutes before serving.
