A classic Italian lasagna with rich tomato sauce, layers of tender pasta, and melted cheese. A comforting family favorite.
Ingredients
- 2 pound mozzarella cheese, shredded
- 0.5 cup Parmesan cheese, grated
- 2 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 salt and pepper, to taste
- 1 pound lasagna noodles
- 28 ounce crushed tomatoes
- 4 clove garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon oregano
- 0.5 cup fresh basil, chopped
Steps
- Cook the lasagna noodles in boiling water according to package directions until al dente.
- Remove the noodles from the boiling water and drain well.
- Heat olive oil in a large saucepan over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 1 minute.
- Add crushed tomatoes, oregano, and salt and pepper to taste. Simmer for 15-20 minutes to develop flavor. Stir in fresh basil at the end.
- Preheat oven to 375°F.
- Spread a thin layer of sauce on the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish.
- Layer noodles, then sauce, then a mixture of mozzarella and Parmesan cheese. Repeat layers until all ingredients are used, ending with cheese on top.
- Bake lasagna at 375°F for 25-30 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbling.
- Let rest for 5 minutes before serving.
