Juicy, perfectly seasoned beef patties topped with melted cheese, crispy bacon, and fresh toppings on toasted buns. A nostalgic American lunch classic that's quick, satisfying, and customizable.
Ingredients
- 2 pound ground beef
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- 0.5 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 tablespoon unsalted butter
- 8 American cheese slices
- 8 bacon
- 4 hamburger buns
- 2 tablespoon mayonnaise
- 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
- 2 cup lettuce, torn into pieces
- 1 tomato, sliced
- 8 dill pickles, sliced
- 4 red onion, sliced
Steps
- Cook bacon in the skillet over medium heat until crispy, about 8 to 10 minutes. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate and break into pieces.
- Drain all but 1 tablespoon of bacon grease from the skillet. Wipe out excess grease with a paper towel, then add butter and set aside.
- Divide ground beef into 4 equal portions and gently form into patties slightly wider than your buns (they will shrink as they cook). Make a small indent in the center of each patty with your thumb. Season generously with kosher salt and black pepper on both sides.
- Heat the skillet with butter over medium-high heat until butter is foaming and just starting to brown.
- Carefully place beef patties into the hot skillet and cook for 3 minutes without moving them.
- Flip each patty and immediately place one cheese slice on top of each. Cook for 2 to 3 minutes more until cheese is melted and the internal temperature reaches 160°F on a meat thermometer.
- Toast the hamburger buns in the skillet on the griddle or in a separate skillet over medium heat for 1 to 2 minutes until golden and crispy.
- Spread mayonnaise and mustard on both sides of each toasted bun.
- Place a cheeseburger patty on the bottom half of each bun. Layer bacon pieces, lettuce, tomato slice, pickle slices, and red onion on top.
- Top with the upper bun and serve immediately.
